Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is an engineered wood product that uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with waterproof adhesives. It is typically used for headers, beams, rim board, and edge-forming material. LVL offers several advantages over typical milled lumber: It is made with a grain of all veneers is parallel to long direction. This uniform parallel grain makes LVL stronger than the long side suitable for joist, beams, etc. It is stronger, straighter, and more uniform. Due to its composite nature, it is much less likely than conventional lumber to warp, twist, bow, or shrink. LVL is a type of structural composite lumber, comparable to Glued laminated timber (Glulam) but with higher allowable stress.
Laminated Veneer Board (LVB) is similar to LVL but there is some cross veneer (usually second outer layers) to increase the strength to the wide sides. This could be found for application in the flat surfaces such as flooring, etc.
